There are many types of people that volunteer in shelters. Some match adopters with the pet, others walk dogs. Some people, such as Maisie Green, use their skills to give additional comfort to the animals.

Maisie knitted about 450 sweaters and cozy blankets for the dogs at age 89. These puppies await forever homes at the Dogs Trust Basildon shelter.

Maisie loves dogs and loves knitting, thus this made her volunteer work very fun and enjoying.

She states that “It takes me three days to knit a blanket and one day to knit a doggy coat.”

Her knitted products are donated to the shelter three times per year.

Maisie’s family drive her there and help with the unloading of each blanket and sweater.

Many of the lucky recipients such as “Daniel the Spaniel” enjoy the knitted from Maisie that were donated to Dogs Trust throughout the years.

Maisie says that “It keeps me busy and often I like to knit whilst watching television. I’m delighted to be helping the four-legged residents at the center in some way.”

With 20 Rehoming Centers across the UK and Ireland, Dogs Trust is the largest dog welfare charity in the UK.

This trust takes care of more than 16,000 abandoned, unwanted, and stray dogs each year.
