Here’s the Right Position to Sleep for Different Health Problems
Alongside physical activity and a healthy diet, a good night sleep is one of the most beneficial factors for our health. Although, it is not just the good night sleep that matters but also the sleeping position. If you sleep in the right position you can fix many different health problems that you might be struggling with.
These are the sleeping positions that you can sleep in to fix these health problems:
If you have troubles with snoring, make sure to sleep on either side. However if you do prefer to sleep on your back, make sure you take extra pillows in order to elevate your head to aid with the drainage in your airways.
Improper digestion can cause heartburn and sleeping on your left side can help relieve this problem.
- PMS Pain
If you are experiencing pain in your spine by PMS syndrome, put a pillow under the knees and it will soothe the pain.
Sleeping constantly on one side will put a lot of pressure on that side of the face and can result in wrinkles. In order to stay away from the rubbing of the face on the pillow, sleep on your back.
- Neck Pain
If you are experiencing neck pain, in order to ease the pain an additional back support is needed. A small rolled up towel placed under the neck should do the trick.

To alleviate back pain lie on your back, place a pillow under your knees and a rolled-up towel under your lower back.
When you struggle with indigestion, it is recommended to sleep on the left side since the stomach is also located on that side.
Neck pain and headaches can be caused by sleeping on various sleeping positions. However, a sleeping position that can help relieve your headache exists. Surround your head with pillows and it will prevent you from turning around during the night.
- Shoulder Pain
If you are experiencing pain in the shoulder, sleep on the side where you experience no pain and make sure that your legs are bent. Additionally, you can place a pillow between the knees and hug another pillow to your chest.
- Sinus Issues
A research has been made at the Harvard School of Medicine which states that elevating your head before falling asleep can prevent the buildup of mucus in the sinuses.

- Obstructive Sleep Apnea
Sleep Apnea can be caused by teeth grinding and snoring. This can result to blockage of your upper airway and cause apnea. Because of that you should sleep on one side which will help you keep the tongue from blocking your airway.
- Hip Pain
Priyanka Yadav, a sleep medicine specialist at the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital states that if you experience hip pain, laying on the back will soothe the pain. By laying on the back, it will help straighten the curve of the spine, thus applying much less pressure on the hips.
