The Reason I Eat Butter Instead of Margarine

Butter is the real thing.

The best butter is one that contains only two natural ingredients: cream and salt and one made from grass-fed cows.

When you select butter from the store, the ingredient list is very short, it consists of cream, salt and that’s all. If you opt for non-fat butter, then you are looking at one ingredient!

What is really known is that a margarine-forming substance is nothing more than a scientific process (experiment). This process created something that turned out to be incredibly bad for human bodies: trans fats.

It was created as a cheaper alternative to butter in the late 1800s, during the time of Napoleon that caused the production of something similar to butter for the military and the lower class citizens. The mass production of the margarine began in 1903 when it was converted into a firmer, wider product by the addition of hydrogen in vegetable oil. Margarine production became very popular because it was a much cheaper option than butter production.

Real butter contains fatty acids like omega 3 and 6 that are really important for brain function. It also contains vitamins A, D and E, which are fat-soluble and help transport fat throughout the body. From here we can conclude that natural fats are good.

The molecular structure of trans fats works in such a way that they do not help the body the way natural fats do. Recent studies suggest that trans fats can have very bad effects on human health.

According to a study in 2008, a 23% increase in the coronary artery was the result of only a 2% increase in energy taken from fat. Another study in 2012 found that trans fats increased the risk of heart disease, while other studies show that a negligible amount of trans-fat-rich foods can increase the risk of dementia.

Why butter is a better option

Butter contains Lauric Acid (also found in breast milk and coconut oil), which is an immune-boosting vitamin.  It is also a great source of healthy fatty acids, cholesterol, antioxidants, and helps with nutrient absorption.

Butter Contains a Lot of Healthy Saturated Fats

Due to the bad science, the “war” against saturated fat was unreal, because it was never really proven that it caused any harm. The recent studies suggest opposite, that using saturated fat cannot be associated with cardiovascular disease.

What if your doctor still recommends margarine instead of butter?

Many doctors still recommend margarine over butter for patients with heart disease, but newer margarine products that are made with no excess fat are recommended. This kind of margarine is better than the earlier versions, but it’s still the equivalent of a scientific project over real, natural foods.

Although it is not recommended to ignore the doctor’s recommendation, it is worth asking if margarine is still the best option in this case or it is wiser to use some butter.

Margarine will never be as natural as butter

No matter how healthy the ingredients are used to make margarine, it will never come close to the pure naturalness and well-being of real butter. In certain situations, the doctor may absolutely forbid eating butter, but the right deal is always the best choice. If you really can’t eat margarine, it’s better to find a different way to flavor your food.

Organic butter is a completely natural food that is essential for human health, but the best one is that of grass-fed cows.
